    Plaquenil before surgery

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Although the rate of complications occurring within 30 days of surgery was high, and 52% of the 63 83% complications were septic, there was no correlation with therapy. Specifically, infliximab treatment within 8 weeks before and 4 weeks after surgery did not increase the risk of early postoperative infections in these CD patients. Mark a calendar to help you remember. This drug is usually started 2 weeks before entering the area with malaria. Take it once weekly while in the area, and continue taking it for 4 to 8 weeks after leaving the area or as directed by your doctor. To treat malaria, follow your doctor's instructions. Reportedly 64 percent of infections that occur in patients with RA occur in the foot and ankle. In order to minimize the risks of infection and other potential complications with podiatric surgery in this patient population, this author reviews the literature and offers insights on whether medications for RA should be withdrawn, continued or modified during the perioperative period.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

The 1-2 months is correct. It’s about 45 days before it starts to go out of your system. Remember it is cumulative, and took time to build up for an effect when you started taking it. It has an enormous half life. That’s why I laugh when some people’s surgeons tell them stop taking it 2 weeks before surgery. It does nothing. Question. I currently take Celebrex and Plaquenil for RA and am having surgery soon on my foot. Dr. told me to be off my meds. one week prior to surgery, but didn’t say how long afterward. In some cases, higher doses can be used. It is recommended one tablet twice daily if taking more than one tablet. It is recommended to be taken with food. Symptoms can start to improve in one to two months, but it may take up to six months before the full benefits of this medication are experienced.

Increasing plaquenil, having problems Oh Serenity, I once tried to go OFF plaquenil before taking Isoniazid to lessen the burden on my liver. It was a very bad idea. I got the symptoms Lynnwood described going off the plaquenil and had such bad heart problems that I went right back on. And I was only off for a day or so. My legs swelled up really bad and I got edema everywhere.
