    Tapering off hydroxychloroquine

I have been on the plaquenil 200 mgm for about 4 months now. I did stop it for 2 weeks early in the treatment due to having to take a coupld other drugs that seemed to give me side effects.

How is plaquenil excreted Chloroquine syrup brand name Will my hair grow back after plaquenil

With the Plaquenil I don't think you will find much relief in such a short time on it & at half of a workable dose. I have read about people stopping P & flaring up. Those who stopped it abruptly had real problems similar to what you are experiencing. If you really need to get off it, I would taper down slowly, very slowly. I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as.

I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect. I just quit the plaquenil to give my liver a rest at that time. Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect.

So that's the update. The lesson here is - for those who need to go off plaquenil, be careful about just going off it cold turkey. Obviously some of CAN do that, but if you don't know if you're one of them - better to be on the safe side and wean slowly. Take it from me! I am feeling much better after bumping my dose back up over the last few. Occasionally, tapering on an every-other-day basis may be useful. For example, instead of tapering from 4 milligrams to 3 milligrams of prednisone, a doctor may prescribe taking 4 milligrams one day and 3 milligrams the next day, and alternating back and forth for one week also known as an alternate-day taper. If you're gonna experiment, I went off it cold turkey as it didn't hurt to do it that way, but you better get back on before the summer or you could experience a flare-up. BUT, I AM NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a doctor, AND I don't know how severe your Lupus is. But when my doc let me try I didn't have a weaning process I was on 200mg am and 200 pm.
