Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil® is a 4-amino-quinoline antimalarial medication that is widely used to treat systemic lupus erythematosus SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, and related inflammatory and dermatological conditions. It is a hydroxylated version of chloroquine, with a similar mechanism of action. However, following an identical dose of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, tissue levels of chloroquine are 2.5 times those of hydroxychloroquine. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Schnitzler"s syndrome, is an acquired auto-inflammatory disease, which was first reported in 1972. It was considered an autonomous entity in 1989 1. It is characterised by the presence of urticarial rash, recurrent fever, arthritis/arthralgia, and enlarged lymph nodes.

Recognition of this syndrome is critical since it is highly responsive to anakinra. Although the etiology of the syndrome is unknown, current evidence suggests this is an autoinflammatory syndrome.
