    Plaquenil eye tests

She suffered from Sjogren syndrome and inflammatory arthritis and was currently treated with prednisone and methotrexate. She was previously treated with hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) 200mg bid (6.5mg/kg) for 10 years, which was stopped one year prior to presentation.

A 26-year-old black female presented in office for her annual comprehensive eye exam. Her medical history was significant for Plaquenil therapy spanning 12 years with a daily dose of 200mg twice daily. She presented with a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/20 OD and 20/20 OS. All preliminary testing revealed normal findings. OCT imaging This test makes a detailed, three-dimensional image of your eye. Your ophthalmologist can use this image to look for early retinal damage. Multifocal ERG This test looks at cells in the retina called rods and cones. The test measures how well these cells respond to light. It can find retinal damage from Plaquenil. Good question. Back on nov 5 i think it was i felt there was a really good discussion about hydroxychlorouine & eye tests here. One of us posted detailed info about her experience & the different types of eye test anyone on plaquenil etc would probably be best to have, and the frequency.

  7. News My Take on New Ocular Screening Guidelines for Plaquenil. It is thought that although the bull’s eye seen on ophthalmic exam represents a disruption of the pigmented part of the retina, it is the photoreceptors that are the targets of hydroxychloroquine toxicity.

The doctors of Wellish Vision Institute are experienced in testing patients for early signs of Plaquenil side effects. Thorough tests include visual acuity examinations, distortion and color vision tests, central field of vision tests, and a detailed dilated retinal exam. When you visit an ophthalmologist for a Plaquenil eye exam, your doctor will perform different tests to detect the presence or extent of retinal damage due to this medication. A Plaquenil screening may include a visual field test, OCT imaging, multifocal ERG, and photos of your eye. I was told from the start by my rheumatologist I would have to have eye exams including visual field exams every six months due to the plaquenil therapy. My first two exams did include these tests. But my next six month appointment is coming up, and they told me I didn't need the visual field test this time so the appointment would be shorter.
