Bull’s eye maculopathy is a rare dystrophy, also known as benign concentric annular macular dystrophy BCAMD. Its toxic effects on the retina are seen in the macula. While early toxicity may be asymtomatic, patients with more advanced stage of toxicity may complain of color vision changes or paracentral scotomas. Advanced hydroxychloroquine toxicity presents as a bullseye maculopathy. The presence of bull’s-eye maculopathy indicates the disease has been progressing for years, resulting in foveal thinning and likely vision loss. 8 SD-OCT is a highly sensitive and reproducible imaging modality used in the detection of Plaquenil retinal toxicity.
