    Plaquenil and immune system

Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Hi everybody, I was wondering if Plaquenil's primary mode of action was to suppress the immune system?

Doctors give trusted answers on uses, effects, side-effects, and cautions Dr. Manek on what does hydroxychloroquine do to immune system In a nutshell, attacks the T lymphocytes, one important white blood cell type, considered the master of the immune system, which also has many subtypes e.g. T helper cells, T suppressor cells, etc. the virus attacks mainly the T helper cells thus disrupting. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Any one have any experience or info regarding pre-existing precancerous conditions and the effects of Plaquenil on the immune system. I see so much info on the net where some says that Plaquenil has very mild effect on immune system except for eye issues --- Other info says it is an immunosuppressant.

1 month ago and prior to taking it I rarely ever got sick with colds, flu etc. I am asking this question, because I started this med approx.

  6. I have been taking Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine for about 10 months. Since August I’ve had some strange infections. First I got shingles. Then I started with a bacterial vaginosis. I discontinued the Plaquenil for about a week when I was diagnosed with shingles and I thought it may have helped it not be so bad. The bacterial vaginosis just won’t go away. I use metro gel and it’s goes.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. But you can’t even compare it to the only other things I have to treat lupus—prednisone, where 100 percent of people get side effects, or immunosuppressive drugs, which suppress the immune system, potentially causing infections, low blood counts, and liver toxicity. The mechanism of action is thought to be anti-inflammatory, but Plaquenil also seems to reduce sensitivity to sunlight. It has also been noted recently that smoking reduces the effectiveness of Plaquenil in treating lupus, thus, smoking cessation should be instituted in all patients taking Plaquenil.
