Several conditions can cause watery eyes in infants and children. Some, like blocked tear ducts or a viral infection, may resolve on their own with time. Other causes may require more immediate. If you are taking Plaquenil to treat an inflammatory condition or malaria, you should be aware of the side effects that may occur to your eyes and vision. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is in a class of drugs called disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, which are used to decrease inflammation, pain and joint damage. Plaquenil is a drug used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosis. It is a very good drug and gives many patients significant relief from their symptoms. Plaquenil related eye complications are not common. Plaquenil can produce pigment changes in the macula of the retina.

The left eye is too, but less so. They look a little bloodshot, but that's not abnormal for me. I know it could be an allergy to something, but I don't know what and I've just not experienced this problem - I'm so used to the dry scratchy painful one! I did look up watering eyes and apparently this can also be a symptom of dry eye. Taking Plaquenil long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Stop taking Plaquenil and call your doctor at once if you have trouble focusing, if you see light streaks or flashes in your vision, or if you notice any swelling or color changes in your eyes. Call your doctor at once if you have Plaquenil and your eyes. A rare side effect of Plaquenil is damage to the eye's retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Using Plaquenil for a long period of time may harm the retina, causing serious vision loss. People with retinal damage from Plaquenil are not aware at first that they are losing vision.
