    Plaquenil joint pain

My rheumatologist is running tests but thinks I have a mixed connective tissue disease. I noticed plaquenil helping with my fatigue more so than anything else. I just want some relief from the knee, shoulder and wrist pain. It does help my joint pain but I need extra help from other meds too It can take up to 6 months to get in your system and fully work, each person is different.

Taking plaquenil gave me moderate relief from the joint pain. I only stopped taking it because my primary physician would not keep prescribing it; she insisted that I should see the rheumatologist regularly. I could no longer afford to see him or the other specialists I was seeing. Plaquenil is a drug that is used to treat malaria infections. It also happens to have immunosuppressive properties and is used to limit inflammation. Arthritis is a disease that is characterized by pain secondary to joint inflammation. This patient stated that the plaquenil was working great and her joint pain had been reduced tremendously. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil – American College of Rheumatology – It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria.

If it does not help the joint pain be sure to talk to your doctor, there are other meds they can give you to help. From what I understand, it is "the first line of defense" and definitely worth a try! I pray it doesn't take that long for you to get some relief. Plaquenil was great for the pain and swelling but did almost nothing for the fatigue. Of all the meds, Plaquenil was the best for me and helped the most, but some people don't tolerate it.

According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is commonly used for treating joint pain in Sjögren’s syndrome patients, based in part on its efficacy in treating the joint pain of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. If you try this med, get your eyes checked frequently, and do not get discouraged-it can take up to 6 months before the med starts to work.
